INVITATION to NSAA NATIONAL CONVENTION
NSAA waives the registration fee for journalists who want to attend the 45th National Convention and tradeshow in San Francisco, May 28 - 31. Costs for lodging, the Gala dinner and the golf tournament are separate and are not included.

Major league baseball executive Paul DePodesta is slated as the keynote speaker. One of the youngest Major League GM's in history, DePodesta has made a career of evaluating, measuring and assigning value to talent and revolutionized the way baseball teams are built. Attendees will find the lessons Paul shares on building success while spending less, can be directly applied to ski area operations.

Also, award-winning journalist Guy Garcia will outline ways in which the multi-cultural consumer is transforming American business, and adventurer Jamie Clark will share his triumphs, and lessons learned while surmounting one of the World's most arduous obstacles, Mt. Everest. In addition, U.S. Forest Service Chief Gail Kimbell will address the Forest Service's three major challenges for the future: climate change, water and getting more kids in the woods. As always, RRC Associates will present season-ending visitation data, and provide a detailed look at the hard work that lies ahead on our Model for Growth initiative.

Additional session information, lodging reservation information, tradeshow hours and other convention details are posted online at www.nsaa.org.To attend, please fill out, email or fax the NSAA Media Registration Form available online at: https://www.nsaa.org/nsaa/members/08-NSAA-Media-Registration-Form.pdf

OBITUARY
We are sad to report the loss of NASJA-West Honorary Member, Elmar Baxter. Ski editor at the Los Angeles Herald, after its merger with the Examiner, Baxter did the outdoor writing and a ski column under Executive Editor and deceased Honorary Member Burt Sims. Baxter was a charter member of and held almost every office in the Southern California Ski Writers Association. He, along with Bob Cartmell and Honorary members Ben Rinaldo and Cecil Charles, restarted a ski publication called "Southland Skier," and was 20-year editor of "The Skier" newspaper. After retiring from the newspaper, Baxter became PR Director for the Port of Long Beach. It was he who got Howard Head interested in the short ski technique and convinced him to make 48" skis. Baxter spent the rest of his skiing career on Howard's shorties, for which he took a lot of razing. Info contributed by Bob Cartmell

RESORTS
Park City Mountain Resort, in partnership with its parent company Powdr Corporation, announced that it will offset 100 percent of its power from renewable energy sources beginning in June 2008. Park City Mountain Resort's purchase of 13.9 million kWh of renewable energy credits (RECs) will avoid nearly 19 million pounds of CO2 emissions annually, which is equal to removing 1,853 passenger vehicles from the road or powering 1,100 average American homes for a year. Since 2005, Park City Mountain Resort's environmental initiatives have reduced and offset 30 million pounds of CO2 emissions, reducing its carbon footprint by 97 percent. Info: PaulaF@pcmr.com
